[westgate-info] New Housing location

Posted by westgate-official on Mon, 11/17/2008 - 12:51

To all on campus residents:

Residential Life, Housing and Campus Dining are on the move. Our offices
will be moving from E19-429 to W59-200 on Thursday, November 20. To
accommodate this move, these offices will not be open for business on
Thursday November 20 and Friday November 21. Our voice mails will be
operating and we will periodically check our messages. If there is an
emergency, please dial 3-1500 and they will connect with our office.

This move allows us to be closer to the residence halls so please stop by
to see your new space if you can!

[westgate-info] Stroller & PCB/Playground Updates

Posted by westgate-official on Fri, 11/14/2008 - 18:21

Hello all,

POD/Stroller Storage Update
---------------------------
I just wanted to offer an update regarding the PODS/stoller storage. As you
have probably noticed, they have not been delivered. Due to the upcoming soil
excavation for the PCB project, set to begin sometime next week, a greater
amount of planning in regards to location was necessary. A proposal was sent
to Dennis Collins this evening and will be worked on in conjunction with the
company. Once we have touched base with the POD company next week and details
are finalized, I will then offer an update.

**This will be the LAST notification regarding the PODS sent to westgate-info.
All low-rise residents will be contacted. If you are a high rise resident and
wish to be contacted via e-mail regarding the PODS please let me know.**

Also, the PODS are NOT currently planned to take up parking spaces but will be
strategically placed among the low-rise buildings and next to the high-rise.
More information will be offered at the upcoming Town Hall Meeting.

PCB/Playground Update
---------------------
Soil excavation around the low-rise buildings will begin sometime mid next week.
This will require a portion of the playground to be closed for the project.
This portion of the project should last until just after Thanksgiving. More
information regarding this process will be shared at the upcoming Town Hall
Meeting.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Have a great weekend,
Jason

[westgate-info] Updates

Posted by westgate-official on Fri, 11/07/2008 - 17:48

Hello all,

Thank you to all of you who came last night. I apologize in advance for the
length of this e-mail. If your spouse or neighbor is not on this listserv,
please forward it to them. Below is an update regarding stroller storage, the
PCB project, rats on the playground, and urination in the courtyard:

1. Stroller Storage
---------------------
We will be mentioning our long-term plan to the Inspector when he is on campus
next week on either Monday or Thursday in the hopes of being granted some
leniency.

I am working with Housing to obtain P.O.D.S for the area for a temporary storage
solution while the PCB Project continues and permanent sheds are built or
purchased. The P.O.D.S will be placed near the low rise buildings and be
secured with a community lock. Once finalized, more information will be given.
I will do my best to avoid having any placed in a parking space, yet having
them within a reasonable distance of the buildings. My goal is to have the
P.O.D.S present by 5:00pm on Friday, November 14, 2008.

In regards to the long term solution, we will be taking measurements to
determine if we can find a shed to be placed next to each entry. If we are
unable to find an acceptable shed for purchase, we will then contract to have
them built. My goal is to distribute the anticipated timeline regarding the
long term solution by 5:00pm on Friday, November, 14, 2008.

2. PCB Project
---------------
The meeting with the contractors, MIT Housing, and others is still not
finalized, however I will send out a notice by 5:00pm on Sunday, November 9,
2008.

Details regarding the work being done can be found on the blog at
http://westgatepcb.blogspot.com/. Apartment 1007 located in the high-rise is
available to low-rise residents using your LA key as a "quiet space". A desk,
chair, phone, and couch have been provided. The basement lounge is also often
available during the day.

3. Rats on the playground
---------------------------
We will have someone in attendance at the Town Hall Meeting on Thursday,
November 20, 2008 to explain the process and chemicals being used to
exterminate the rats. In the meantime, if you should discover a dead animal in
the courtyard area, please contact Michael Collins during the day and x3-1500 if
after hours. Someone will then remove the dead animal. We will also be working
on communicating the areas where the chemicals/nests are located. Any
information received before the Town Hall Meeting regarding the location will
be shared before the Town Hall Meeting.

4. Urination in the courtyard
------------------------------
Urination is not permitted in the courtyard area, be it on the playground or
near the BBQ pit. While accidents may occur, please do your best to have your
child use a toilet indoors.

Should you have any questions regarding the above or additional concerns, please
feel free to contact me.

Enjoy the weekend,
Jason

[westgate-info] Community Gathering Tonight.

Posted by westgate-official on Thu, 11/06/2008 - 10:04

Hello all,

I will be on hand in the basement lounge this evening at 8:30pm to discuss
potential solutions related to stroller storage, dishwashers, and other
concerns you may have. Currently, no guests are scheduled to be in attendance,
however I do have information regarding our compliance with fire regulations,
the plumbing in regards to dishwashers, and, just in this morning, current
action being taken regarding vermin in the playground area, in an effort to
answer questions may have as well as work towards potential solutions for
stroller storage.

A separate meeting will be scheduled to solely discuss the PCB Project regarding
potential compensation and upcoming steps. Representatives from Housing, EH&S,
and the contractors will be on hand for this upcoming meeting. The meeting
will be scheduled within the next two weeks.

Also, a Town Hall Meeting will be taking place on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at
7:30pm. Updates regarding both these meetings will be shared and any other
concerns about the community can also be voiced during this time. The Town
Hall Meetings occur on the third Thursday of every month and are always an open
forum for residents to offer feedback, propose ideas for the community, hear
about upcoming programs, and voice concerns.

Should you have any questions, please let me know. Enjoy the day.

Sincerely,
Jason

[westgate-info] Stoller Removal, Plumbing, et. al.

Posted by westgate-official on Tue, 11/04/2008 - 08:59

Hello all,

The reason for the e-mail previously sent by Michael regarding the removal of
items from the hallway was the result of Westgate failing the fire inspection.
We apologize for the tone that may have come across in the e-mail. Removal of
items will still be necessary due to the penalties incurred should the
community continue to fail the inspections.

In response to what has been transpiring on the westgate listserv, I will be
holding a gathering on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2008 at 8:30pm in the basement
lounge. I will try to have either information or persons present that can
answer questions surrounding fire regulations, the plumbing, and prospective
construction end dates. We can then work towards potential solutions regarding
the storage of strollers and perhaps other issues that have been presented.

Also, a proposal was put forward regarding sheds for the community last Spring
that could then store strollers. The feasibility of this proposal was
discussed. The sheds were not purchased and installed due to a number of
issues ranging from potential effectiveness to the upcoming PCB removal. As
the PCB project is close to ending, the proposal could once again be
implemented. This solution would not be immediate but a timeline could be
offered once finalized. I will offer information regarding this proposal at
the gathering on Thursday.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I apologize for
your frustration around all these issues. Michael and I will work as best we
can to find a solution within the constraints we have. Michael and I will also
work to implement the solutions as quickly as possible and inform you along the
way in the hopes of regaining some of the trust lost. I look forward to seeing
you on Thursday.

Sincerely,
Jason
